John Macfarlane
Past President of Barnet Rugby Club as well as Senior Life Member of Barnet Elizabethans Rugby Club and Past President of the Hertfordshire Rugby Union, JOHN MACFARLANE, died suddenly on Monday 21st April. His Funeral will be held at Monken Hadley Church (Hadley Green/Hadley Common) on Friday 2nd May 2008 at 12.30. Club members and other rugby friends are invited to attend.
John's input to the Club cannot be quantified easily, save to say that he was regarded as Mr Barnet Rugby as well as a long involvement in the Barnet Carnival for over 40 years. He will be sadly missed as a senior Club Member but more as a close friend to all.
Our sympathies are with his wife, Gill, and their three children Helen, Fraser and Elizabeth and other members of the family.
Sabbath Cup Winners
Hertford RFC hosted the Sabbath Cup on Sunday 27th April with ourselves, Hemel Hempstead, OV's, St Albans, Letchworth and Cheshunt battling it out in its 21st year. Despite early indications of a healthy squad, only 14 players turned down Sunday lunch in favour of a vets tournament however rather than head straight to the bar, we decided to press ahead and make a day of it. As it turned out this was a wise decision.
