2008 - 2009 Season Welcome |
It only seems like yesterday that the 2007/2008 season finished and now
the 2008/2009 season is nearly upon us. BERFC hope you have all kept
fit and active over the summer months and are as eager as your coaches
to return to renew old acquaintances and be involved with Rugby once
more.
Senior
teams play their first games on Saturday 6th September with the 1st XV home to Colchester in the first round of the EDF Senior Vase. Please turn up to support them. Annual fees
should be submitted, together with the new Club Registration Form to
your Captain or Coach by the end of October. The new Club Registration
Form will ensure that the Club have up to date contact details for all
its playing membership.
Minis and Juniors officially return to
Barnet Elizabethans on Sunday 7th September at 10:00am and to ensure
the season starts off on the right note, it would be helpful if you
completed the registration form and had your subscription with you.
All fixtures for the coming season have been published on the website. Updates will appear there as required during the season.
The
Clubhouse is open all weekends during the season with senior matches on
Saturdays and the minis and juniors from 10.00am on Sundays followed by
the Colts and Ladies - no entrance fee and you will be most welcome!
GOOD LUCK TO YOU ALL FOR THE NEW SEASON. WIN, BUT MOST OF ALL ENJOY YOURSELVES !!

Past President of Barnet Rugby Club as well as Senior Life Member of Barnet Elizabethans Rugby Club and Past President of the Hertfordshire Rugby Union, JOHN MACFARLANE, died suddenly on Monday 21st April. His Funeral will be held at Monken Hadley Church (Hadley Green/Hadley Common) on Friday 2nd May 2008 at 12.30. Club members and other rugby friends are invited to attend.
John's input to the Club cannot be quantified easily, save to say that he was regarded as Mr Barnet Rugby as well as a long involvement in the Barnet Carnival for over 40 years. He will be sadly missed as a senior Club Member but more as a close friend to all.
Our sympathies are with his wife, Gill, and their three children Helen, Fraser and Elizabeth and other members of the family.

Hertford RFC hosted the Sabbath Cup on Sunday 27th April with ourselves, Hemel Hempstead, OV's, St Albans, Letchworth and Cheshunt battling it out in its 21st year. Despite early indications of a healthy squad, only 14 players turned down Sunday lunch in favour of a vets tournament however rather than head straight to the bar, we decided to press ahead and make a day of it. As it turned out this was a wise decision.
